Yard waste includes leaves, brush, grass clippings, and other plant material.
Disposal Options
State law prohibits the disposal of yard waste such as leaves, branches, weeds, and grass clippings in the trash. Residents can use one or more of the following disposal options:
- Curbside yard waste collection
- Ramsey County yard waste collection sites
- Washington County North Yard Waste collection site
- Home composting
Requirements
If your yard waste is picked up by the City's contract hauler, state law requires utilization of a reusable container or special bag that can be composted. Plastic bags are not considered reusable or compostable and are banned for purposes of yard waste disposal.
If you drop off yard waste at a County yard waste collection site, bags of yard waste, including biodegradable bags, must be emptied on site and taken with you.
Depositing leaves, grass clippings, trash and soil from the boulevard or private property into the street is prohibited, as these items may end up being washed into the storm drainage system as an illicit discharge
