Proudly registered with the Ice Sports Industry (ISI), the White Bear Lake Skate School provides quality skating lessons for beginning to advanced skaters of all ages. Our skating program strives to teach skating skills to recreational, hockey and competitive skaters to promote a life-long love for ice sports and recreation.

Skating Lessons - General Information


Skating lessons are offered throughout the year. Beginning classes tend to fill quickly. Class fee includes membership with ISI (Ice Sports Industry) which is an international association that encompasses all aspects of the ice skating industry. Skaters receive excess accident insurance, ability to earn badges when levels are passed and opportunities for competition and shows. 

  • Beginning skaters ages 4-5 - Register for Tot 1
    • Due to high demand for Tot 1 lessons, skaters must be 4 years old at the start of class.
  • Beginning skaters ages 6-12 - Register for Pre-Alpha
  • Beginning skaters over age 13 - Register for Teen/Adult class

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations are accepted through the second week of a session, with the exception of serious illness or injury. Skaters wishing to withdraw from a session must provide written notification to aflater [at] whitebearlakemn.gov (aflater[at]whitebearlakemn[dot]gov) or mjoyce [at] whitebearlakemn.gov (mjoyce[at]whitebearlakemn[dot]gov). You will be charged for all lessons through the date of notification, plus a service charge of $10.00/ The City of White Bear Lake will send all refund checks by mail.

2026 Summer Skating Lessons

Summer Session 1       Tuesday, June 9 – Tuesday, July 14, 2026 (6-week session)
Online Registration for Summer Session 1 begins on May 5, 2026 and ends June 3, 2026.

Summer Session 2       Tuesday, July 21 – Tuesday, August 25, 2026 (6-week session)
Online Registration for Summer Session 2 begins on May 5, 2026 and ends July 15, 2026.
Do not wait to until Summer Session 1 ends before registering for Summer Session 2. Many classes will be full.

  • We cannot provide make-up classes for missed lessons. Refunds or credits will be issued if the rink closes.
  • We reserve the right to add, combine, cancel or change class times based on enrollment.
  • Do not wait to register as classes will fill!
  • If classes show as full, please register for waitlist!  Always register for the current level.  Skaters will be moved if tests are passed.
  • Due to an increase in class time, skaters passing from Pre-Alpha to Alpha class, as well as skaters passing Delta and moving to Freestyle 1 will need to pay the prorated additional fee.

*Important note regarding private hockey lessons--must be taught during early morning ice (6:00 am – 7:30 a.m.).
